Maritime operator doubles-down on sensor autonomy with expanded investment in Overwatch Imaging’s ASO software

Overwatch Imaging is redefining what’s possible in long-range, wide-area maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.
Leveraging the AI-powered search and detection capabilities of Overwatch Imaging’s Automated Sensor Operator (ASO) software, a prominent maritime operator monitoring critical areas along the eastern seaboard is achieving new levels of mission effectiveness. By transitioning from manual operation of its EO/IR imaging systems to autonomous sensing, the agency has achieved greater success and unlocked new mission sets only possible with the support of ASO’s powerful edge-processing and AI-powered detection capabilities.
“ASO has become an essential part of every maritime mission we run,” the agency said in a testimonial. “It didn’t just improve our workflow, it opened the door to new business. This solution has been a true game-changer for our maritime operations and has directly enabled additional mission sets and follow-on work.”
Building on these results, the agency is now expanding its investment in ASO with two additional to further strengthen long-range maritime ISR capabilities across its fleet.
“In detection and interdiction operations, the ability to find small and elusive vessels across vast bodies of water provides a massive advantage,” said Greg Davis, Founder and CEO of Overwatch Imaging. “We’re committed to delivering better intelligence to policymakers, responders, and warfighters, and better intelligence always means more time and more options.”
This expansion highlights the operational value of ASO’s unique combination of superhuman vision and reduced operator workload. Compared to traditional, manually operated gimbal systems, ASO dramatically increases both the size of the area that can be analyzed and the effective resolution of collected imagery. In complex maritime environments, this enables the reliable detection of vessels that are smaller, farther away, and harder to discern against a vast ocean backdrop.
About Overwatch Imaging
Overwatch Imaging is an imagery intelligence technology company working to bring sensor autonomy to time-critical airborne search, detection, tracking and monitoring missions. Our Automated Sensor Operator (ASO) software, native to our own line of purpose-built Smart Sensors and as an upgrade for airborne video gimbal platforms, brings Superhuman Vision and Workload Reduction to users of real-time imagery intelligence systems. We fundamentally believe that modern edge processing and AI-enabled autonomy can perform an important set of time-critical imagery intelligence missions better, faster and more safely than humans can alone.
Founded in 2016 in Hood River, Oregon, we support private sector companies as well as federal, state and local agencies around the world with missions ranging from wildfire mapping and disaster response to law enforcement, border security, maritime domain awareness and tactical intelligence.
